Weekly Cohort Message 9/14/2020

Good Morning, Royal Cohort!!

It was so good getting to see many of you Saturday during the All Corps event! I personally enjoyed being in community with our full corps as well as learning with and from our corps. I am so proud of the work being done. I send positive vibes to each of you this week! Don't forget to utilize and add to our Royal Cohort Virtual Resources document and also stay connected with our Royal Cohort Community Networks document.

A quote to remember this week, "You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand." - Woodrow Wilson ]

Our Success Story for today comes from Ailish Dougherty!!

"In advisory, we were discussing mental health and self-care practices. In a breakout room, a student expressed how she likes to draw because it helps her when she is experiencing suicidal ideation (we are aware of this and she is on the counselor's case load). However, I wasn't sure if other students were aware. Later in class, two girls messaged me and asked if the girl who sent the message could stay on the call so they could reach out and make friends with her, and talk to her to help her through what she is going through. Their kindness and compassion made my day!!" What an inspiring story!

I AM SOOOOOOO LOVING WHAT I AM SEEING IN YOUR CLASSROOMS!!!

For Your Information:

LatinX Heritage Month, or Hispanic Heritage month (official government designation) recognizes and honors the enduring contributions and importance of LatinX Americans to the U.S. and celebrates the many heritages and cultures of Americans from or with ancestors from Mexico, the Caribbean, Spain and Central and South America. This year, LatinX Heritage Month starts September 15 to October 15. Mid-September was chosen because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Wishing you the best!
